How every number here is computed, and what's a labelled estimate
Most money-making sites show you a number. This one shows you the maths behind it, and tells you honestly when that maths runs out — because a tool that only ever gives round, confident answers isn't being careful, it's being convenient.
Each gold method declares exactly what it consumes and produces as real, checkable item IDs. Profit is instant-buy price in, instant-sell price out, GE tax deducted — every time you load the page, against whatever the market is doing right now. Expand any method and the entire calculation is right there: input cost, output value, tax paid, per-action profit, times the rate. Nothing is a lookup table of numbers someone typed in once.
A drop chance like “1 in 512” isn't something the live price API can tell you — it's a fact about the game. Those numbers come from verified sources and are static until Jagex changes the game. We don't blend that recalled data into a price silently: the drop table and the price are always shown as two separate things, so you can see which part is “this is a fact about the game” and which part is “this is today's market.”
Combat rate varies with gear, mechanics, safespots and respawns in ways no single formula can see. Rather than fake precision across 342 monsters, the bestiary shows a wide range and marks every figure “rough.” The dozen methods we've hand-verified with a real kills-per-hour rate live in Gold Methods instead — that's the difference between a tuned number and a ballpark, and we don't blur it.
Sustainable gp/hr accounts for buy limits and market volume — not margin multiplied by an unlimited buy limit, which is how most flip calculators quietly overstate everything. When a method is losing money at today's prices, it says so and sorts to the bottom, rather than being hidden or rounded up.
Supplies consumed, GE tax paid, capital required, and every requirement you do or don't meet — all shown, not folded into one green number. If a figure is incomplete because a price is missing, that's stated explicitly rather than silently treated as zero.
What "estimate" actually means here
Two different things get called an estimate on this site, and they aren't the same:
This is a fan-made tool and isn't affiliated with or endorsed by Jagex. Price data comes from the OSRS Wiki's public real-time API. If you ever find a figure that doesn't match what you see in-game, that's worth reporting — a wrong number here is a bug, not a feature.
